Lotto and Berenson: Crossed Destinies – The Rediscovery of a Renaissance Master is a documentary that explores the intertwined lives of Lorenzo Lotto, a forgotten 16th-century painter, and Bernard Berenson, the art critic who rediscovered him. Produced by 3D Produzioni and directed by Simona Risi, the film follows actor Alessandro Sperduti as he retraces Lotto’s journey through the landscapes of the Marche, Bergamo, and Venice. Lotto’s quest for recognition led him to scatter his works across northern and central Italy, and the documentary reveals both his art and personal struggles through letters and documents.
Parallel to Lotto’s story is Berenson’s, a young Lithuanian-American scholar who, captivated by the Renaissance, traveled to Italy at 24 and became fascinated by Lotto’s ability to portray the inner lives of his subjects. Together, their stories create a rich journey into art, human psychology, and the universal fear of failure.
